Details:
In collaboration with our Youth Outreach Worker and staff from participating agencies, the Youth Worker looks after operation of the Delaware Youth Drop-in Centre. The position works four mornings a week, up to a maximum of 16 hours per week. In addition to the hourly wage, there is 9.5% in lieu of benefits. Program funding is in place until the end of March 2015. Job duties include:
• Promotes and maintains a safe, substance free atmosphere in the program space.
• Builds supportive relationships with youth who attend.
• Supports youth in skill acquisition and builds on current skills in the areas of basic communication, emotional regulation, stress management, self-esteem and other life skills.
• Coordinates the day to day operation of the program, including shopping, cooking, cleaning and managing donations as necessary.
• Plans and develops program material and delivery based on best practice, youth development needs and JHSNI guidelines.
• Monitors that the program space, equipment and materials are in usable condition.
• Obtains client feedback on program effectiveness.
• Maintains accurate records, prepares reports, and attends meetings as required by the John Howard Society of North Island.
• Offers and receives support to and from co-workers as part of a team providing integrated, holistic services. Represents the agency in the community when required, and maintains healthy relationships with other helping organizations and the community at large.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum of a social services related diploma. Experience working with at risk youth.
