We are currently seeking a Project Estimator to join our growing Team!
Job Summary:
The Estimator will be responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects, including materials and labour. The Estimator will be tasked with preparing and maintaining a list of suppliers, contactors and subcontractors, and established unit costs, labour rates, productivity factors and location impacts. This individual’s accuracy is critical to the profitability of the business, as underestimates may cause significant financial losses and over-estimates may result in the inability to gain financing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Preparation of through, accurate and timely estimates
• Assist in the development of written proposals for value type pursuits
• Participate in the presentation and review of estimates
• Undertake or mange material take-off and quality surveying
• Build-up of direct and indirect cost estimate for major projects
• Review and mange design deliverables from the design team
• Develop safe, high quality approaches to construction with the design department
• Gather site and market information pertinent to bid preparation
• Manage the request for quotations process and any special interest requirements
• Accumulate, evaluate and document historical cost data
• Organize and prepare budgets
• Ensure that budgets are completed and properly prepared
• Complete the as-bid estimate
• Provide assessment of estimating accuracy and prepare relevant analyses
• Research historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates
• Prepare estimates of probable costs or materials, labor and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
• Follow established tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders
• Establish and maintain tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
• Prepare and maintain a directory of budgeting codes complete with units of measure, rates and add-ons
• Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility
• Provide assessment of estimating accuracy and prepare relevant analyses
Qualifications & Experience:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Working knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts
• Excellent technical, organizational, and planning skills
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with well-developed communication and negotiation skills
• Solid attention to detail with the ability to be a problem solver
• Ability to work independently or as a member of a team
• Demonstrated success in working effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Strong work ethic to complete tasks in a high quality manner
• Total familiarity and understanding of related computer estimating applications including budget code repositories, digital take-offs and scheduling software
• Experience with Viewpoint construction software is a definite asset
• General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing required
Credentials and Experience:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working as an estimator for a general contractor on $20+ Million dollar projects
• Prior Canadian cold weather construction estimating experience is mandatory
• Ability to work on large project estimates with proven time management skills
