MULTICULTURAL FAMILY PLACE PROGRAM
JOB TITLE: Multicultural Family Place Coordinator
DURATION: Every Wednesday night 6:30 - 8:00, September 2014 to April 2015
STATUS: P/T Contract
COMPENSATION: $120 per session (based on approx. 5 to 7 hrs)
REPORTS TO: Human Resources Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Coordinate activities for the Immigrant Welcome Centre (IWC) Multicultural Family Place for 2.5 hours weekly, and/or other activities as identified.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Connect immigrant families with one another and established community members.
Provide information about community services and resources.
Enhance immigrant family’s awareness of services for their children in the community.
Encourage children’s participation in the community.
Have fun.
Learn about and participate in Canadian traditions.
Learn from each other.
Develop leadership.
Practice English.
TASKS
COORDINATION & PROMOTION
Assist IWC staff to promote the program and attract new people.
Contact identified or interested individuals.
Coordinate weekly activities and other activities as identified.
Contact participants of activity.
Assist in arranging rides for people without transportation.
Provide a means for participants to have input into planning activities. Encourage participants to lead activities and volunteer during the program.
Support newcomers with language barriers to be included. Arrange for buddies or interpreters if helpful.
Liaise with the Volunteer Coordinator to arrange for guest speakers, presentations, or information about community services and resources.
Ensure requirements for use of Community Center facilities are adhered to: booking room, notifying if there is a cancellation.
utilize the assistance of volunteers as needed.
RECORD KEEPING & REPORTING
Keep attendance and a record of activities.
Assist with evaluating the program and providing recommendations.
Keep records of volunteers and number of hours.
Keep records of all donations, in-kind contributions and community partners.
Run program within approved budget.
Meet with the Volunteer Coordinator and submit reports as required.

Qualifications & Experience:
EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
A certificate in human services, community development or related field with 2 years experience coordinating diverse groups.
JOB SKILLS and ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings/workshops.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate events.
Demonstrated experience in working with diverse groups.
Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain new group members.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and engage volunteers.
