Forest Technician
Salary $48,942.48 - $55,662.83 annually (plus an isolation allowance of $1,010.62 annually)
As a Forest Technician, you provide a variety of technical and operational duties to support the planning, layout, auction, harvest and reforestation activities over a large geographic area. Part of a high functioning, multi-disciplinary field team, you perform the technical activities to support BC Timber Sales strategic objectives. Your assignments are expected to include approximately 70% Timber Sale License (TSL) activities and 30% TSL administration/and silviculture activities.
The preferred applicant will have experience and interest in coastal timber development, harvesting and silviculture activities. The field working environment will regularly require working in rugged steep coastal terrain and at times require travel in boats, float planes and helicopters. The successful applicant must have strong teamwork, motivation, organizational abilities, initiative, ability to work in an environment of change, ability to work with a range of personalities and have a positive attitude. This individual must put a high value on data integrity and have an aptitude towards forestry systems management. Your professionalism in both the office setting and in the field is evident in your clear and concise reporting and your ability to build effective working relationships. Qualifications & Experience:
To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following education and experience:
Bachelors’ Degree in a resource management related field (i.e., geography, environmental studies, biology, resource management, forestry) and a minimum of 2 years (gained over the last 5 years) experience in one or more of the following areas: conducting coastal road and cut block engineering/development, road construction, silviculture or timber sale administration; OR,
Technical Diploma in a resource management related field (i.e., geography, environmental studies, biology, resource management, forestry) and at least 2 years (gained over the last 5 years) experience conducting coastal road and cut block engineering/development, road construction, silviculture or harvest monitoring; OR,
An equivalent combination of education or experience such as, five or more years of operational forestry experience in one or more of the following areas: conducting coastal road and cut block engineering/development, road construction, silviculture or harvest monitoring.
Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Forester or Forest Technologist with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP). Preference may be given to applicants currently registered with ABCFP.
Preference may be given for demonstrated recent timber development or harvesting experience in rugged BC Coastal terrain.
