Job Summary
Reporting to, and with the general direction of the CareCorp Care Leader at a 90 bed long term care facility in Campbell River, the Registered Nurse(RN) is responsible for the evaluation of residents' physical, psychological and social health. The RN is governed by CRNBC practice standards, and utilizes these standards to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, including the provision of treatments and the administration of medication. The RN provides work direction by assigning and/or delegating tasks, demonstrates work routines, and oversees the orientation of new staff according to organizational policies, procedures, standards specific to the care site. The RN also participates in medical, departmental, and general staff meetings such as interdisciplinary care conferences.
Responsibilities
1. Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care plans and treatments, and informs supervisor and/or attending physician and, as necessary the family, of significant changes in the condition of any resident.
2. Participates with the Care Leader and other staff and health care providers in medical, departmental and general staff meetings such as interdisciplinary care conferences, Medication Safety Committee, Occupational Health and Safety.
3. Assist the resident's attending physician with examinations and therapeutic measures.
4. Maintains an up to date knowledge of relevant facility policies and procedures, particularly those concerning the administration and recording of medications, sanitation, safety, infection control and emergency procedures and follows them.
5. Maintains accurate records of resident's health and health care requirements in accordance with the charting and documentation policies and procedures. Reviews Resident Care Plans for appropriate goals, problems/strengths, approaches and revisions based on care needs.
6. Maintains up-to-date recording of MDS/InterRAI requirements.
7. Observes and removes from use any malfunctioning and/or defective equipment and supplies, and reports them to the Manager of Resident Care. Ensures that supplies are used in an efficient manner.
8. Ensures residents rights or privacy and confidentiality are maintained, except in the proper operation of business.
9. Performs direct nursing care and treatments.
10. Assists with admission, discharge and transfers of residents.
11. Acts as team leader by providing guidance or direction to other care staff.
12. Participates in Quality Assurance/Risk Management program.
13. Participates with staff development and continuing education programs.
14. Promotes and maintains positive communication with staff, residents and other health care professionals, family and the public.
15. Assumes responsibilities as Nurse in Charge as assigned by the Care Leader.

Key Relationships

- Provides direction of care staff to meet resident's needs.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing
- Current registration as a practicing member of the CRNBC or CRPNBC
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Certificate of Geriatric Nursing (or previous experience) an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication
