Details:
Hemmera is currently looking for a field technician (approximately 20 – 40 hrs per week) to help with ecological monitoring at the Cape Scott Wind Farm. Tasks include bird and bat fatality monitoring around turbines and collector lines, elk abundance surveys, and vegetation surveys/monitoring.
The successful candidate will be trained by a Hemmera field biologist, and have the opportunity to be involved in and learn ecological monitoring techniques.
Field work will require early morning starts and field days will be approximately 10 hrs long. Assistants must be prepared to spend the day outside walking and/or hiking. They must provide their own clothing suitable for outdoor work (gloves, hiking or rain boots, hard hat, hi-vis vest, rain gear, etc.). Some PPE (safety glasses, hard hat, and high visibility vests) can be provided by Hemmera if required.
Applicants outside of Port Hardy are responsible for their own transportation to and from Port Hardy.
Qualifications & Experience:
The successful candidate must be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions, have good physical fitness and the ability to hike up to 8 hrs per day, be self-motivated and detail-oriented with an ability to work independently (though in contact with on-site wind farm staff). Previous experience conducting ecological field work is an asset.
Valid Class 5 driver’s licence required.
First aid level 1, or a promise to complete prior to start date, is required of a successful applicant.
Reasonable costs to complete WHMIS will be paid by Hemmera. Costs (time and access) to complete bear awareness training will be provided by Hemmera.
