Summary of Position
Do you have a passion and aptitude for communicating about the natural environment, science, and the ocean? The Summer Educator will assist with developing and delivering a variety of programming highlighting the importance of marine habitats, biological diversity, cultural linkages, and marine conservation/stewardship. Reports to the Manager/Assistant Manager.
Job Duties
- Deliver a variety of interpretive programs for school and other groups, and daily public events
- Work with staff and volunteers to develop and deliver interpretive and informational displays,
as well prepare crafts and activities for these events
- Assist with public outreach and special events - planning, preparing, and participating
- Assist with interpretation in the Aquarium as necessary
- Collect, maintain, and handle marine specimens for display, observation, and scientific
investigations
- Maintain appearance of buildings, interpretive props and material
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications
- Education in biological science, marine biology, zoology, education or similar preferred
- Previous interpretation / education experience
- Knowledge of local intertidal and subtidal marine life
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Creative, professional, friendly, flexible and proactive in problem-solving
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Current First Aid certification
- Language skills - e.g. French, German, Kwa’Kwa’la
In order to fulfill criteria for Canada Summer Jobs Grant, applicants will need to be aged 15-30, have been registered as a full-time student this last academic year, and be returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year. See our website for details
