Strong management skills

• Management or supervisory experience pertaining to a childcare facility

• Experience in writing proposals and reporting to funders meeting deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge of community resources
• A valid childcare First Aid certificate
• A clear criminal record check
• Medical clearance from a physician stating that physically, mentally and emotionally capable of working with young children. TB testing may be required.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development
• Knowledge and respect of Aboriginal cultures, language and traditions
• Ability to work independently and in a team situation
• Personal suitability for working with young children
• ECE Certificate or Diploma and license to practice in British Columbia preferred
Qualifications & Experience:
The Aboriginal Head Start Program Coordinator:
• Responsible for the management of all aspects of the AHS program
• Track and manage budgets, complete reports to funders, evaluate employee performance, liaise with office manager, funders, BOD and pertinent community organizations.
• Familiarity with laws and standards pertaining to non-profit organizations, confidentiality and childcare facilities.
• Ensure that the Comox Valley Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) Preschool provides a nurturing, culturally sensitive care and education program for young children, consistent with the philosophy and guidelines stated in our policy and procedures manual and follows the AHS Principals and Guidelines.
• Ensures that Comox Valley AHS Preschool is family-friendly and supportive.
• Leads and coordinates preschool staff, ensuring all legal and contractual requirements are met.
This person will have experience in the Early Childhood Profession and knowledge of the local First Nations and Aboriginal community. This position requires a broad base of knowledge including strong leadership qualities that promote team work and collaboration, has an understanding and practice of Aboriginal protocols, has group facilitation skills and an ability inspire others with a strong vision of family centred, quality early childhood program delivery.
