CARECORP Seniors Services is a full-service provider to the senior care community, in both residential and home support settings, providing services including Nursing, Food Services, Housekeeping and Laundry. Position Summary
With the general supervision and reporting to the CARECORP Therapies Manager or designate CARECORP Manager(as applicable), the Recreation Aide carries out prearranged activity programs. These programs are designed to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and cultural needs / interest of residents.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Provides recreational programs that meet a diverse population of residents.
• Setup, organize equipment needed for specific program(s), and oversee residents involved by encouraging participation.
• Ability to follow safety policy and protocol in the community with residents and volunteers.
• Effective and professional communication skills with all facility departments.
• Ability to provide support to volunteers.
• Maintain inventory of department equipment.
• Report risk, hazards, near misses, unsafe situations, incidents and accidents to Therapies Manager.
• Record and discuss residents' participation levels in programs.
• Escort, transport, assist residents to programs.
• Performs other related duties as requested by manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
Qualifications & Competencies
• Grade 12 plus completion of recognized Recreation courses plus one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must be flexible with scheduling as position involves weekend and evening hours.
• Class lV driver's licence (or willingness to obtain one).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work as a team member and to work effectively with others.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment, which includes driving the bus.
• Ability to support a respectful workplace environment.
• Basic computer skills.
• Experience working with Alzheimer's and Dementia residents in a complex care facility.
• Must be an enthusiastic team player.
