Ecosystems Biologists are needed
2 Regular, Full time positions are currently available; 1 in Port Alberni; 1 in Campbell River
As the Ecosystems Biologist, you are responsible for identifying, developing, analyzing and implementing ecosystem (terrestrial and aquatic) conservation, restoration and enhancement projects. As the sole Ecosystems Biologist in each District Office, you are a local expert and key contributor who develops mitigation strategies for major high risk project developments by conducting impact assessments and inspections, gathering data and recommending the approval/rejection of development applications to the supervisor. An independent self-starter, you develop site-specific guidance and region-specific best practice methodologies and analysis tools for mitigating ecological impacts from development. With your excellent ability to network and establish vital relationships, you conduct stakeholder consultations relating to the outcome and impacts of ecosystem projects while negotiating with industry, First Nations and government officials in achieving habitat protection objectives. With your superior communication skills, you integrate well and thrive in a team-based environment, contributing your expertise while being open to collaborating in broader Regional initiatives such as planning for species at risk, ungulates, and other focal species.
Results oriented, you are able to take conceptual ideas to operational deployment by providing feedback on the efficiency of standards, and performing assessments and recommendations on approvals and permits. In this vital position, you provide recommendations on regional ecological and regulatory monitoring requirements and implement them through compliance and effectiveness monitoring programs. Highly organized and detail oriented, you contribute to the development of best management practice initiatives, adapting provincially based guidelines and standards to regional settings.

Qualifications & Experience:
To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following:
• Degree in biological sciences, natural resource conservation and management, including terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, conservation biology, fish or wildlife management and biodiversity and 3 years of recent (within the past 5 years) related experience or equivalent; OR,
• Master’s in Science in biological sciences, natural resource conservation or management, including terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, conservation biology, fish or wildlife management and biodiversity and 2 years of recent (within the past 5 years) related experience.
• Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in BC with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.
• Experience in conducting environmental monitoring and assessments.
• Must possess and maintain (or transfer from another jurisdiction a driver’s licence equivalent to) a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.
