WORK DESCRIPTION:
Creel Survey positions require candidates to conduct interviews at commonly used landing sites and record recreational fishing data from recreational anglers at the completion of their fishing trips. Specific job duties include but may not be limited to: conducting interviews, interacting with the public, identification of recreationally caught finfish and shellfish, collection of biological samples, clear and precise data recording and electronic data entry.
Candidates are required to provide their own transportation to and from the landing sites within their area of responsibility. Mileage expenses related to the job duties will be reimbursed. Hours of work will be part time (7 to 35 hours/wk) and shifts will include both weekends and weekdays. Shift times will vary depending on the month and the job location/area.
As a representative of the Government of Canada interacting with the public, creel observers are required to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Training and further information about these positions will be provided to successful candidates.

WORK DURATION: Duration will vary depending on location but is generally June through August/September.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
English language proficiency
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Computer literate
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and access to your own transportation
Successful completion of secondary school
No criminal record (security screening required – reliability status)
Able to work evenings and most weekends
Knowledge of the biology of Pacific Salmon
Able to handle strenuous field activities
Comfortable working around water (docks and boat launches)
Effective interpersonal skills
Initiative, dependability, and good judgement
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience conducting surveys
Experience recording and managing scientific data
Experience working with the public
Experience working in outdoor locations
Recreational fishing experience
Ability to identify Pacific Salmon and other common recreational caught species
Experience with species identification
