Western Forest Products is currently seeking an experienced Dryland Sort Supervisor for our Quatsino Dryland Sort in Port Alice, B.C.
This role is on a 5 and 2 shift and is responsible for overseeing a workforce of approximately 35 union employees.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient flow of logs. This includes leading an effective safety program and contract management of towing and transportation. In addition, the role is responsible for coordinating and directing log towing; managing the log sorting and quality process at the Dryland Sort in accordance with company specifications and barge schedules; and maintaining optimum unsorted inventory levels. In addition, the position will also oversee a third party contract sort on an as needed basis.
Qualifications & Experience:
The successful candidate will have a background in the forest industry, excellent communication skills, be will organized and have a minimum of 2 years experience in a supervisory position.
A strong commitment to safety is essential. The candidate will have experience in log sorting; a good understanding of the company’s quality expectations—a scaling license will be an asset. The candidate should have a sound understanding of contract management, budgeting, basic financial concepts and computer use (MS Word, Excel & LIMS). The successful individual will have solid, demonstrated analytical capabilities and leadership skills.
