Western Forest Products is currently seeking an Area Planner to join our North Island Forest Operation and our Timberlands Team based in Port McNeill on northern Vancouver Island.
The Area Planner is an integral part of the Operation’s team. The actual position will be awarded based on the successful applicant's overall skillset and experience. Here you will be part of a dedicated group that works closely together to successfully achieve our annual targets and goals. This rewarding position provides the self-motivated individual with the flexibility to be strategic, innovative, and creative in delivering results. Success in this role brings the satisfaction that comes when working with a dedicated team to integrate harvest plan preparation with the resulting harvest, road building and silviculture activities. Reporting to the Senior Operations Planner, this highly motivated and positive individual strives to deliver and support the following key functions and responsibilities:
•Support a culture of safety leadership.
•Complete and peer review site plans.
•Ensure consistency of the planning process with higher level requirements, government legislation and WFP’s EMS and CSA certification systems.
•Provide Cutting Permit application support.
•Supervise Minor Products operators.
•Prepare Silviculture plans to meet obligations and financial targets.
•Organize and supervise various Silviculture contractors.
•Complete Post-Harvest Assessments and road deactivation plans.
•Experience in using Cenfor, MS Office Suite, Plant Wizard, SNAP! Experience with Road Eng, ArcView plus mobile devices (iOS based-platform) would be considered an asset.
Qualifications & Experience:
All candidates considering this position are strongly encouraged to apply. This position requires a degree or diploma in forestry from a recognized post-secondary institution and to be an RPF in good standing with the ABCFP for a minimum of 5 years however this position may be developed based on the skills and attributes of the ideal candidate.
