The Outreach/Community Support Worker is paid $18.18/hour. Vacation pay will be paid at 4%.
Mountainside Support Services Ltd. is currently looking for a part-time Outreach/Community Support Worker to work with youth in Campbell River, BC.
Purpose & Scope of Position
The Outreach/Community Support Worker provides assistance to individuals living with a developmental disability, Autism, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) or significant behavioural challenges. Service is provided in a client centred manner and individualized to meet the needs of the supported individual. The Outreach/Community Support Worker will develop and maintain a positive relationship with the supported individual, and assist them in a variety of areas.
Responsibilities:
• Responds immediately to emergencies and provides crisis support.
• Transportation of client. Transports client to various appointments. It is the responsibility of the worker to ensure that all requirements for the safe transfer and transportation of the client is met. This includes valid driver’s license, safe driving record, proper insurance, and vehicle maintenance to ensure road worthiness.
• Interacts effectively with individual being supported and promotes positive behaviour intervention strategies, follows programs and approaches in a consistent, competent manner, and deals with difficult behaviours in a manner that respects as well as protects their clients and themselves.
• Attends meetings with other supports, as required.
• Participates in the development and implementation of personalized plans for health and safety, social, recreational, educational, and life skills activities/programs to meet the individual needs of the person being supported.
• Maintains appropriate records, ensures all required documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner. This includes hourly work log, appropriate use of program funds, and submission of receipts.
• Provides liaison with other supports and agencies is in the community and fosters positive working relationships.
• Maintains an awareness of any problems (medical, behaviour, or other) experienced by clients and informs Supervisor as required.
• Works flexible hours to accommodate supported individuals’ needs.
• Promotes community belonging by providing opportunities for the development of relationships with community members.
• Supports individual to strengthen relationships by teaching about conflict resolution and providing informal counselling support
• Assesses and interprets behaviour accurately and provides appropriate support in keeping with the individual’s history, personality and strategies developed in consultation with the individual’s support team.
• Recommends and advocates for other professional services.
• Provides health care support including mental health issues, addictions, preventative exercise, diet and health care education.
• Provides support to supported individuals in the justice system.
• Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to accommodate day-to-day variations in support requirements.
• Demonstrates a high degree of tolerance for unique personalities and challenges of person’s being supported.
• Supports and promotes a friendly and cooperative relationship with funding agency representatives.
• Adheres to Mountainside Support Services Ltd. Policies and Procedures, including confidentiality and safety.
• Continual professional development and current expertise on relevant information.
Qualifications & Experience:
Job Requirements:
• Experience supporting individuals living with FASD, Autism, Developmental Disabilities or challenging behaviour
• Knowledge of community based programs and community support services
• Relevant education training (human services, social work, counselling, education, early child education, community recreation, psychology)
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
• Valid non-restricted class 5 driver’s license, clean drivers abstract and insurance
• Approved Criminal Record Check ($28.00 fee)
• Valid First Aid Certificate
