Working Opportunities
for Women
Creating work opportunities in the new economy.
"WORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN" OFFERS...
"Working Opportunities for Women" (WOW):
- has a successful history having run a pilot project in Spring 1996 and four WOW
Programs in Spring and Fall 1997, Spring and Fall 1998;
- is a work creation program using a business plan approach;
- provides a supportive environment for the creation of work and business alternatives;
- gives women the tools to create their own employment;
- is a dynamic program that adapts to the changing labour market and participant needs;
- is a free 14 week full-time program with wages for participants.
Includes:
- work/business planning process using experienced business consultants;
- business management tools;
- personal development;
- networking in the business community;
- self-promotion;
- mentoring & success teams for ongoing support once the program ends.

WOW IS FOR...
For women who want to:
- learn from their own and other's experiences;
- apply past experiences and skills to create their own work or business;
- learn and apply business and self-promotion skills to their work/business idea;
- jump-start their future in the world of work.
For women who:
- live in the Comox Valley or in the Campbell River Area
- are unemployed;
- are currently receiving employment income (EI) benefits; or have received EI within the
past 36 months; or have received maternity or parental benefits within the past 60
months;
- have re-employment as a main priority;
- are flexible and self-motivated;
- have a well developed work/business idea;
- have the time to commit to a full-time program;
- are ready to create their own futures.

INFORMATION WORKSHOPS
Attending an Information Workshop is a mandatory first step in the application process.

In these one day sessions you will learn:
- program content;
- myths & realities about working for yourself;
- program eligibility criteria;
- the application process (all applications due March 4th 1999)
- how work is changing;
- how work changes impact on the average worker;
- work alternatives.
- trends - what's coming tomorrow;
- if your work/business idea fits the trends;
- how to be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right things;
- how to turn a need, want, or problem into an opportunity;
- turn an opportunity into a work/business idea;
