WCA is managing a program under the Pacific Integrated Commercial Fisheries
Initiative (PICFI) for the purposes of facilitating collaborative management of West
Coast of Vancouver Island fisheries. To support this management, NSWS has
conducted a Risk Assessment that identifies priority actions needed to enhance
and/or restore fish habitat in the Nootka region. The purpose of this contract
position is to help advance and coordinate associated stewardship projects led by
NSWS.
Activities will include:
• Project related proposal writing and fundraising
• Coordinating and managing field based projects and related personnel
• Ensuring all funding requirements are met (e.g. deliverables, timelines, budgets,
reporting)
• Ensuring all project related legal requirements are met (e.g. insurance, safety)
• Liaising between NSWS, other project contractors and government
• External communications (e.g. raising the profile of Society activities, attracting
new volunteers)
Qualifications & Experience:
• Knowledge of the Nootka Sound area
• Ability to work well with First Nations, sport and commercial fishers, government
representatives and other sectors
• Contacts and connections with local businesses, volunteers, schools and others
• Self-starter and strong time management
• Highly organized with an attention for detail
• Excellent written and oral communication
• Budgeting and project management
• Fisheries specific knowledge an asset but not necessary
